Havelock charity run 2013

Bret and I did our first real run together. We did the 3k in havelock. We took off at a pretty good pace and then at the mile mark we were just at an 8 minute pace. I told Bret that if he wanted to take off he cold and he did! He finished in the 14 minute range where I finished in the 15 minute range. It was a nice cool morning for a nice run with my son!

Run for Boston 2013

After the Boston marathon bombing a quick 3 miler was put together in downtown Lincoln. I had just started working at UNL so it was the perfect chance to run. It started outside the lied looped out to 10th street and then on the trails and back. It was rainy and snowy but all for a great cause!

Ben yelkin run 2013

I found out about a fundraiser for a guy named Ben Yelkin. It started down in wilderness park and then came out and onto the trail by van dorn and then it looped back again. It wasn't a timed run but it was fun and for a good cause.

Love it or Hate it 5K 2013

This year I decided to change my running at bit and try to get faster. With that in mind I decided to do 5ks and hopefully find a 10k at the beginning of the summer to compete in and see if I get faster!

The first one I did was the Love it or Hate it Cupid Run at Nebraska Wesleyan. It was a fun course and set up nicely. I started in the parking lot at the first of the university. I ran straight through to the track where I made a big loop around the track and then out to the exterior sidewalk of the campus. Then I went around twice (I took the hate route because I was in all black) and then made my way back through campus to the finish line. It was very fun.

The route was actually 3.3 miles and I ran it in 31:35. I was happy with the time and it set the bar for the rest of the year. I had an average pace of 9:34 a mile so that was good too. I ran the first mile in 8:36 so that was too fast!

Beer and Bagel 2012

In the final run of the year, Turan and I again did the Beer and Bagel. It's always such a fun event and keeps me running.

This is was a little better too for a number of different reasons. One of them is preparation. We know more what time to arrive and how to pace ourselves. We brought along chairs to sit on and that was helpful too.

The run itself went backwards from last year's race. There were two water crossing areas and one deep ravine to cross. But they weren't filled with a ton of water like last year and that was so much better!

We ended up having a decent run despite the challenge of the hills at Quarry Oaks and we actually beat our time from last year. Oh and the chili, beer and bagels were great too!

Havelock Run 2012

The 2012 Havelock Run was my best 10K to date as far as being in shape and the ease of it. Making the way into the open field straight east of Havelock seemed much better. Then even the turn into the south wind and the big climb up the hill on 84th Street wasn't bad at all. The turn into Mahoney Park was a little longer than I remember and more challenging because one of the lanes was closed off for cars. But as Kate and I pushed down past 70th Street it was an easy run into the park by Havelock. My goal is always to finish under an hour and it was really close! The Havelock was the first 10K I did four years ago in 2008 and I bested my time from the event. The final main running event of the year was a complete success!

Bolder Bolder 2012

This was the second time that I ran the Bolder Boulder. My goal going into the run as to have a good time and that is exactly what happened. Greg and I drove up from his house outside of Conifer
We got there just in time to just into our wave and took off. I wanted to take a bunch of photos along the way and they are all posted here too.
I felt so much better running it this time than last time. The altitude really affected me last time and this time I just felt like I could keep running all the time. I only grabbed water a couple of time because it was a perfect day to run.
The only drawback was that we didn't run in a timed wave start. So we were at the back of the pack behind many of the walkers so most of the time we were dodging and weaving through walkers but I don't think it affected my time that much. I just had a good time stopping and taking pics, like the one at the hula hoop, where I jumped in and did that hula hoop three times.
I can't wait to do this one again. It's always so much fun and the course is lined with people!

I just finished the DICK'S Sporting Goods BolderBOULDER 10k with mile times of 0:10:17.46, 0:10:18.16, 0:12:23.89, 0:11:11.41, 0:11:35.51, 0:10:49.63 and a finish time of 1:08:44.75, 11:04 per mile.
