Lincoln Marathon 2010

Oh yes did my first ever half marathon at the Lincoln Marathon. What an experience. I think the biggest thing I will take away was the amazing crowds. I felt great for the first 10 miles and then it all sunk in and I really had to push the final 3.1. But I overcame.

I finished in 2:16.13 and the average time was 2:16.17 so I was just above average! I was 3,634 out of 6,107 runners in the half.

Fans on the Field 2009

After a restless night, we got up and made our way to the 10K that started at Invesco Field. I was kind of disappointed because I had to walk/rest too much. First my right shoulder cramped up and then I just couldn't get the air in like usual. Not sure if it was the altitude or not but whatever it was...I struggled. But some of the views were great as we ran from outside Invesco (home of the Denver Broncos) to the Pepsi Center (home of the Colorado Avalanche/Denver Nuggets) to Coors Field (home of the Colorado Rockies) and then back to Invesco. In each case we got to run on the sidelines so it was a cool view.

It was also a beautiful day. I still came close to my normal time. Without my cousin Greg pushing me I wouldn't have finished as high as I did.

Novartis 2009

In review, it definitely wasn't as tough as the Havelock Run that I did last year. I was fortunate to get a map to see where this one would go and I was more prepared for it.

I was fortunate that the rain had stopped before the event started and that made it much nicer. I really felt pretty good the entire time. First we ran down into the park and then out to 70th and then back on Normal and down to nearly 48th. Then we caught a bike path and ran toward Pioneers before turned back towards the dam. I thought we would run up the dam but we didn't and that kind of threw me for a loop. Once I was coming down that big hill and back into the park though I was excited and trying to figure through a blister that was building on my right foot. But I felt good at the end and could have gone a little longer.

Havelock Run 2008

Well the day finally came and the run is over!

I got up at around 6:45 and we left the house around 7:25. When I got to the starting line it was 80 degrees. The first mile I was pretty tight. My legs just seemed like they couldn't get going. I ran out on Havelock starting at 63rd Street and then all the way out to 84th. At first I was thinking 84th wasn't too far away and then I remembered that it was all of the way to the Lancaster Event Center. Oh my! I couldn't stay with a pack either and the open fields on the windy day were brutal. When I turned the corner onto 84th it was seemingly uphill all of the way as well as the wind blowing strongly, sometimes in the face and other times pushing you to the side.

I was getting in a bit of a rhythm though. Even though they don't like you to use a music player any more for safety I had to use one for running a race this long. That helped push me a long, with the music giving me the energy. When I turned off of 84th and headed down Adams, past the Mahoney Golf Course, it was more downhill and that was welcomed. Then I turned back onto 70th and then expected to get ready to turn down Fremont and the home stretch. Ummm...no. I had to turn into Mahoney Park on Fremont and up another brutal hill. Thank goodness there was a waterstand to give me a pickup. I worked my way into the park to the turnaround part and then headed out knowing that I would now run down Fremont to 63rd. I got another quick burst of energy traveling downhill but then another hill came and sucked a lot of energy out of me. I had to stop for 4 mini-breaks (10 seconds each) during the race. I hoped that I wouldn't have to stop but I think it was just too hot out. I hadn't trained in the warmth like that. Finally, 63rd Street came and I thought the finish line would be closer. It seemed like miles away even though I could see it. But I kept pushing forward and got to the line. Yeah! I finished it in 1:05.54, according to my watch. I haven't been that tired in a long time.

The officials stats that I just received by email were:

Bolder Boulder 2010

What a great day for a run! I was just really happy with myself because I really struggled with the altitude last year in Denver during the Fans on the Field.

Greg and I were running a little bit behind due to the road construction but we eventually got caught up to the F group at the start line. They even played the horse racing thing on a trumpet to start each wave.

The first part was downhill and Greg and I were rocking. As I saw the first mile sign ahead I looked down at my watch and saw just eight minutes. I was like Greg we are going wayyyy to fast. As you can see below that first split was under 9 but it allowed us to finish under an hour too.

There was a lot of fun along the way...bands...cheerleaders...marshmallow throwers...sprinklers...swimming pools..and good sized crowds cheering you on.

The course was very windee through Boulder and I did well taking some drinking breaks. As I got close to Folsom Field I knew I didn't have a lot left though and had to take a quick 10 second break. Greg had gotten ahead and had some people chanting my name as I got close to the entrance. But then even then we had to run a big loop across the field.

I was very happy though!
